Finished Reading: Cultivate by Lara Casey

Many moons ago, when I’d just moved to Modesto I was meeting with my friend Stacie (still new friends) and she mentioned she’d seen this book Make it Happen like ALL. OVER. SOCIAL MEDIA. I saw it was available from Book Look Bloggers and snatched a copy for review. That book was the beginning of something new, I honestly cannot imagine what the last 3 years would have been like had I not read Make it Happen. It changed me.

I’ve applied to be on Book launch teams in the past to no avail. I’m not a widely sought-after influencer, I’m pretty sure only my friends & family actually read my posts here. But nonetheless I still applied to the Cultivate Book Launch team, and strangely enough, they included me.

I’m a huge Lara Casey fan, so I am a little biased. Like I said, Make it Happen actually changed my thinking and is one of my most coveted books on my shelf. I’m thrilled to be including Cultivate to that short list and put on my bookshelf.

Most people write books AFTER large events occur to them, not in the middle of it. Not in the middle of the mess. Lara’s book Cultivate is about her & her family’s journey through miscarriage, pregnancy, adoption, and all the while learning what God was cultivating within themselves. It’s about embracing your mess as your story and learning to see and trust in God.

I’m not exactly the world’s best gardener, I’ve killed my fair share of plants including the “everyone can grow a succulent”. Lara’s imagery of us as seeds pushing through the dirt, breaking out of shells into the light and blooming for the glory of God in our own unique purposes, is not only encouraging. It’s enough to make you want to go outside and put your hands in the dirt. To feel the mess and cultivate something new.
