Summer Reads: Vinegar Girl by Anne Tyler

I’m an avid reader, both me and Travis love to read and although we have our favorites mixing it up is fun too.

Vinegar Girl

I started reading Vinegar Girl by Anne Tyler, knowing it was modern retelling of Shakespeare’s well-loved Taming of the Shrew, although funny this play would be hard to retell in an appropriate way now. I was curious to see how Tyler, walked around the issues of feminism and strong independent women in a story based on the marrying off of a daughter.

Anne handled it really well, in fact I really loved the strong and independent characters she created and her main character’s ability to be strong, caring, and still find love in the long run although she is a bit hesitant.

So, if you love Shakespearian story telling, this modern take on the classic is a perfect poolside read! (I read it in a day)
