Mindy Kaling is one of my generations funny, hipster, strong women that we love to love. In her book ‘Why not me?‘ she has personal essays that allow the reader to see she is essentially just like you and me. Her insecurities are are the same as mine, and her journey to moving across the country and realizing what long distance friendship really looks like. (Which is one of the hardest parts of moving cross country)
She talks and jokes about the unrealistic beauty standards of hollywood and the media. As well as how she found things to really fit and flatter her body.
This book is a beautiful small hardback, easy to through into any bag. Perfect for lunch breaks and if you commute via train or subway it’s easy to read in small segments. (I do not recommend reading while driving home…)The liner pages at the beginning and end are totally adorable and it’s a fun detail that you can tell she put some extra thought into. I haven’t read her first book ‘Is everyone hanging out without me?’ but it’s on my Amazon wishlist for sure! After watching The Office for years, I read this book in her voice and the funny stuff is only funnier that way.
