Preparing for my 1st 5K

Yep, I went and did it.

I signed up to run a 5K in September. What am I thinking? I hate running.

or is it because I have never tried?

Anyways, it is what it is and since I already mailed the check I am doing it. And here are a few of the resources I am using to help keep me on task and achieve this goal.

1) FitBit Flex

  • My flex keeps track of all my steps and my sleep pattern as well as wakes me at 7:30 am each day.

2) InShape Gym Membership

  • This is my 1st ever gym membership, since using the Rec Center in College. I am going to Yoga 3 times a week and running the treadmill at least once a week. Yoga has been great for new stretches and relaxation. Several times in class I have thought, ‘man this is really working that muscle that gets tight’ or ‘wow, that would feel great after a run!’ In the photo below, I had run 1.6 miles on the treadmill and I am trying out my very new Bolder Band, which I will be reviewing for your pleasure later this month as I continue to train for my 5K.

3) My Husband

  • He is totally a resource in this training to run a 5K because, he has done it and has more experience running. We run a few times a week around our neighborhood, Asher too, anywhere between 1-3 miles. Our first run/walk was 1.5 miles and took 22 minutes. The goal is to slowly work up to running all the way.

4) Apps

  • So here are a few of the apps I am using, mostly the FitBit App, Cardio and Nike Running. I have also added RunKeeper to the list, there we have the race countdown and it links to my fitbit. It keeps track of my running distance and time and I have a set ‘motivation’ to run a 5K. I typically use the Nike + when I run on the treadmill and the RunKeeper for outdoor running.
